Rotary Meeting Tuesday 8th July - Lunchtime

President Gordon in the chair, some beleive he started the meeting 33 seconds late !

Today the new meal regime cuts in: starter & main course followed by coffee - £9/head.

Rotarians Attending: 18 + 1. PP John (M) came late and was fined.

Apologies: 5

There were no guests

Club Visits: Last week President Gordon visited the R/C of Anton-Andover to witness their change-over and present a banner. Seemingly their formality was lacking, no-one wore their regalia and the bar of the pub the meeting was held in took priority over Rotary.

There are no known birthdays this week

Presidential Announcements: Our charter was deemed a success, the DG even sent a congratulatory card commending President Gordon on starting the new Rotary Year with a 'bang'
Our Club had reasonable stewardship attendance at last Sunday's Vintage Rally enhanced by equal numbers from the 'Castle' Club. Pity about the low numbers of punters attending.
The first Council meeting is to be held at President Gordon's house on Wednesday 16th July 7.00pm.

Secretarial Announcements: There is a blatant error regarding Alan F-F's mispelt name in the Club Handbook - N O T   the fault of the Secretary, his proof reading was beyond reproach. Alan's surname should read Forster-Faircloth, it is correctly spelt in other references in the Handbook.
Terry wishes to point out that his work contact 'phone number should read:- 0845 33 00 247
There is to be a Mens Open Golf Tournament arranged by the R/C of Cockermouth on Sunday 7th Sept at Cockermouth - more on this nearer the date.
There is a request from R/C of Bassenthwaite to assist in their despatch of redundant medical equipment to Ukraine, Council will give the request consideration next week.
We are invited to a fairwell concert by the visiting Children of Chernobyl at Cockermouth in the Lorton Street Methodist Church on Saturday 12th July at 6.00pm. President Gordon intends to attend, it would be comforting if others could accompany him. You will all recall Janet Hayters poignant description of life for these children in their homeland when she addressed the Club in May.

Club Members Announcements: PP Richard is accepting names and money (£12 for a years subscription) to the Rotary 100 Club.
Richard is also promoting the sale of raffle ticket books in conjunction with R/C of Workington whereby every ticket (£1 each) sold by us ensures a 50% donation to our Club's charities. The prize ? ..... to be the first vehicle to ride down the new Howgate By-pass (David Allan eat your heart out).
Treasurer Tony is demanding all subs in during this month - £96 for the year. If you miss giving your cheque to Tony, pass it on to Secretary David.
PP John Boag and PP Tom Stout look for four more teams to compete in their Golf Tournament at Muncaster Friday 18th July. £100 entry fee for a team of four - £25 each - which also includes supper at Blackbeck Hotel.
Rtn Bob Wright reported upon the health of Rtn David Ellison. PP Richard later enquired of David's progress via wife Val to learn David is out of hospital and at home suffering acute discomfort through a trapped nerve. President Gordon will send a 'Get Well' card on behalf of the Club.

There was no speaker this afternoon but 2nd V-P Paul is trying for an evening speaker next week.

Club Draw: Won by Rtn Donald (B) on ticket No. 140 who contributed the £5 towards Richards raffle ticket sales.

Fellowship Officer: That Geordie Terror - PP Richard Carling - issued indescriminate fines and told one of those convoluted jokes that half of the members found humorous (the other half are still deciphering the accent !) But it was a C L E A N  joke.

Final Toast: Was quaffed at 1.50pm. There then appeared to be some impromtu Committee meetings being held which was heartening.
