Club Visits: PP Donald Dixon had visited a Rotary Club in Switzerland only to find they had changed the venue, he had then visited a Club in France on Bastille Day only to find they had cancelled the meeting in favour of a national celebration he then visiting the R/C of Dundee (Natal) had met a Rotarian member whose forte was installation of electric fencing !
There were two birthdays this week, Rtn’s Donald Brownrigg and Terry O’Connell
Presidents Announcements: Several topics from last Wednesdays Council meeting were aired:
A bag-pack at Tesco’s on Thursday 18th December between 4.00pm and 8.00pm will take place, ten members present committed to help (We need 20 Rtn’s to man 10 tils in two 2-hour shifts).
A Xmas ‘Ratty’ excursion was discussed for the benefit of school children.
The R/C of Bassenthwaite are looking for assistance for their next foray to Ukraine by way of clothes/equipment, however, this club is now well committed to their charitable work this Rotary year.
A suggestion for £1 contributions to a 100-square card with a draw, the winner receiving a bottle of wine was not met with enthusiasm.
2nd V-P Paul Berrys’ recent surgery has met with problems – infection - and currently Paul is back in hospital.
Rtn David Ellison is still suffering great discomfort due to a trapped nerve in his back.
Secretarys Announcements A reminder for
stewardship help to the R/C of W’ton for their Paint-the-Town-Red festival on 30th August resulted in
more names coming forward on the shift rota.

Wheel Club of Whitehaven invite all to their Afternoon Tea at President Dorothy’s abode at
Sports: It is believed that Sports Officer Harry is attempting to rustle up a Bowls Team to play at Whitehaven Bowling Club on the evening of Monday 4th August.
Club Members Announcements: The two golfing Rotarians, John & Tom had to postpone the tournament last Friday due to a waterlogged course and are re-scheduling the tournament for Saturday 23rd August at Muncaster – further details as the date approaches.
Terry has now framed the recently awarded Presidential Citation – to be displayed at The Chase in due course.
Club Draw: Won by PHF Frank with number 166.
Next Weeks Speaker: D G Tony will
address both our Club and the ‘Castle’ Club next Tuesday evening at a joint
meeting.
Fellowship Officer: PP Ricky issued well deserved fines but refrained from telling a ‘story’ as time was pushing on – maybe a different tale next week !!!
