Club Visits: PP Richard (S) along with Margaret,
President Gordon and Irene had attended the charter anniversary of the R/C
of Carlisle and enjoyed an excellent night of fellowship and entertainment
(by Annie Mawson) and guest speaker R I B I President Ian Thomson.
President Gordon and Irene had attended the R/C of
Barrow-on-Furness charter the previous night and enjoyed a good night of
excellent food and fellowship.
There were no Birthdays this week.
Secretary's Announcements: Notification of charters
for the R/C of Workington - 5th December and R/C of Keswick -
8th January (2009).
Members Announcements: David W-B now has the ten
Harrods Teddy Bears to distribute around town and elsewhere also he is
looking for sponsors (£20 each) to which he now has a response for
five.
Sport: Harry has booked two courts at the Cleator
Moor Indoor Bowling Club tomorrow night and is looking to members to
have-a-go.
Any Other Business: Christine brought greetings
from her clubs President - Eli Day - and advised that her club is of a mind to
gift an Usbourne Dictionary to each primary school student if
possible.
Speaker: Andy Thompson was introduced as the author
of a recent book "Cars of the Soviet Union" he then gave an excellent
illustrated talk on the production, variants, reliability, usage and
distribution of the former Soviet era motor cars. The technical book publishers
Haynes are in contact with Andy who has produced a definitive volume on the
maintenance of Lada cars.
Vote of Thanks: Was given by PP Tom (M) who was
full of praise for Andy's in-depth and interesting talk. A lengthy Q & A
session followed.
Next Week: The lunchtime speaker on Tuesday 25th
will be new Assistant Governor Chris Jefferson.
Club Draw: Won by ticket number 430 held by V-P

draw resulting in the following winners:-

Fellowship Officer: As neither the Fellowship
Officer nor Deputy Fellowship Officer were in attendance, once again Richard
Stout was called upon to officiate: no fines and the one-liner "Relationship
between the elderly and youth - drink and drugs !"
