Club Visits: PP John Boag reported on six members attending R/C of Egremont Charter last Friday.
PHF Geoff had attended the R/C of Carlisle Castle at which R I B I   Ch Exec Officer Ann-Marie Hart had given an excellent address ( and Geoff had been presented with the new club's banner).
 
Birthdays: PP David W-B on 21st May.
 
Presidents Announcements: President Gordon had asked for support in stewarding the "Kids Out" event on 10th June.
 
Secretarial Announcements: PP David (A) read three seperate invitations to Rotary Sponsored Walks in the District. Also still looking for stewards/registrars for the Hospice @ Home Midnight Walk on 5th June.
R/C of Carlisle South Charter anniversary 5th June is the only charter we have currently been invited to attend.
 
Members Announcements: PHF Geoff along with PP Ronnie had performed the annual Stroke Awareness "surgery" at TESCO last Saturday and given free heart/blood pressure assessments to some 160 of the public - one young person had been advised to seek an appointment with his family doctor as his assessment gave cause for concern.
PP Tom Milburn promoted the Cross Fell Challenge hike and overnighting event for the week of 11th -19th July in aid of Shelter Box(s) purchases by contestants seeking sponsorship. Please give this support, sponsorship forms available from either Tom or Secretary David (A).
PP David (A) is finalising numbers for our annual Ladies Night on 29th May. Those who have not yet indicated their joining in please do so immediately. Venue ZEST Restaurant 7.00pm £23/head menu choice to pre-book.
 
Their being no SPORT announcement, President Gordon introduced our GUEST SPEAKER, Dick Raaz, who gave an amusing, at times, informative and very in-depth talk on the nuclear waste repository at Drigg. Dick - a former USN nuclear submarine commander who had spent six years of his life beneath the waves !!! - knew his subject thoroughly, ably conveyed the safe long term storage of this contencious issue  in a most enthusiastic manner. The resultant Q & A session indicated the level of interest Dick's talk had inspired.

Club Draw: Ticket No.567 won by Rtn. Mark Harrison and graciously donated to Rotary funds.
 
Currently we have no nominated speaker for next week so tentatively we may take the opportunity to screen the Cross Fell Challenge dvd.
 
Fellowship Officer: Deputy Fellowship Officer David (E) fined late-commer Geoff and then proceeded giving an hilarious tale of a mix-up in presents of gloves and knickers from a beau to his girlfriend.
 
Final Toast: Quaffed at 9.25pm.
