PROCEEDINGS of ROTARY  MEETING
                                                   Tuesday lunchtime 26th May 2009

President Gordon in the chair

Rotarians Attending: 16

Apologies for Absence: Tom (M), Geoff Burgess, Paul Turner, John (M) & Donald Brownrigg.

There was no Guest Speaker (other than our in-house speaker today) nor were there any Visits to Other Clubs and there were no Birthdays this week.

Presidents Announcements: We have the wonderful number of 38 kids and several teachers for this years "Kids Out". Gordon would like more Rotarians to volunteer to assist.
Reminder that tomorrow evening is Rotary Council meeting at President Gordons house, 7.00pm. Quite important as we need to set the protocol for next weeks CLUB ASSEMBLY.

Secretarial Announcements: Two charter invitations left: Carlisle South (5th June) and Bassenthwaite (12th June).
Midnight Walk (5th June) For all those Rotarian volunteering to act as stewards, Hospice at Home organisers would appreciate Rotarians to man TESCO car park from 8.30pm until midnight as stewards - full instructions will be given closer to the time.

Club Members Announcements: Ladies Night this Friday 29th May at ZEST Low Road. All menu choices now in. Please arrive circa 7.00pm. There is parking for about 20 vehicles in the restaurant car park.

Speaker(s): In which John Kennedy gave a history of the theory and formulation of the arthimetic quotient Pi or 22/7 or 3.142 or whatsoever way your schoolboy memory recalls it. In the case of Anthony Payne who gave a rendition of a humorous poem "............... but I can never remember the value of Pi". John's delivery, although of somewhat lengthy introduction, was interspersed with witticism and made the whole talk interesting and mind boggling - it has been calculated to 51 billion places of decimals !!!!!

Club Draw: Won on ticket No. 583 by David Allan

Next Week: This is our annual CLUB ASSEMBLY at which all Rotarians should make an effort to attend. In-coming Committee Chairmen to give a brief outline of the aspirations of the committees in the new Rotary year. Assistant District Governor Chris Jefferson will be in attendance.

Fellowship Officer: PP Ricky fined the Secretary for some paltry misdemeanour (probably because PHF Geoff wasn't there to be ritually fined !)

Final Toast: 1.46pm.
