Africa last week and attended the R/C of Workington Derwent Club meeting,
all of which had been a pleasant experience.

Presidents Announcements - President David expressed
his disappointment at the prolongation of the D G's speeches at our charter last
week which meant the curtailing of David's speech and the restriction of
our guest musician - Judith Jones - performance within the allotted time scale.
However, Judith will offer her band to play at any Rotary function we may
devise sometime during David's year.
President David had gallently undertaken the Rotary Cross Fell
Challenge last Sunday in aid of the Shelter Box Appeal. A well patronised
event - still on-going throughout this week (watch Border TV evening news items
!).
Rotary car-parking stewardship attendance between the two Clubs had been
somewhat disappointing the previous Sunday at the annual Vintage Rally.
President David, along with IPP Gordon, had attended the Kells Infant
School last week and presented the children with an Usbourne Dictionary
each compliments of the Club. The Club may also help out with drawing utensils
for the children in the future.
The Club Handbook 2009/2010 is shortly going to press once outstanding
Rotary event dates are compiled.
President David is conscious that we prepare for events well in advance in
future.
Secretary Announcements - Retiring Secretary David
(A) advised the Club that we have secured a stand at no cost to Rotary at
the forthcoming Whitehaven Festival - 8th & 9th August - and a
joint undertaking between the Castle Club and ourselves should promote both
Rotary to the community and the on-going Shelter Box Appeal.
PP Tom Milburn, who has undergone recent eye surgery, is progressing and is
back at work.
The new Charter Board is circulating; the first on the circuit is R/C of
Whitehaven Castle on Friday 11th September to which we ought to support with a
good turn-out much as Castle Club members have to our charter.
Club Members Announcements - Treasurer Tony
advised that annual subscriptions are now due - £100. Cheques to be made payable to
Rotary Club of Whitehaven and sent to Tony's home address if members
are unable to attend the club meeting next week.
PP John Boag read out from two letters he had received concerning the
donation the winner of the recent Rotary Golf Tournament had made -
£200 - to the Colorectal Unit ward at Carlisle Hospital. A very deserving cause
associated with the treatment of bowel cancer.
There was no speaker today, the first in President David's year as the
above business was needed to be announced.
Next weeks Speaker, Tuesday evening 21st July, will
be from the Miners Lamp Theatre Company.
The Club Draw - was won by PP John Boag.
Felllowship Officer - No fines were issued today and
Fellowship Officer Ricky told a hilarious tale of poison, a pharmacist and an
unfaithful wife.
Final Toast - 13.45hrs.
