Visits to Other Clubs: ten members had visited the Charter of the Rotary Club of Whitehaven Castle.

 

Birthdays this Week: David Ellison on 13th.

 

President’s  Announcements: Draft Minutes of last week’s Council meeting had been circulated to members; copies were available at the registration desk.

Race Night (LIARS event) on Friday 9th October (NOT 16th)  -  all tickets now sold.

The Masons are holding a Charity Dinner Dance on Saturday 28th November at Cleator Moor Civic Hall: if we support this, they will support our President’s Ball (suggested date  -  9th April 2010).

30 paint boxes had been obtained for Kells School: these will be handed out in due course.  We may hold a painting competition to enhance links with the school. 

The remaining Council meetings for this year will be on the third Wednesday of the month.

A notice was going round about the 5th Tuesday Social Night visit to Energus and the Royal Yew.

 

Secretarial Announcements

Charters: Upper Eden 25th Sept (last call): the Secretary also has details of the Garstang and Over Wyre Charter on 7th October.

The Quiz team is in action on Wednesday 16th September v. Keswick at 7 for 7.30 at the Chase.

The Secretary has also taken part in the first heat of the new series of Radio 4’s Brain of Britain  -  the broadcast goes out at 1.30 pm on Monday 12th October.

 

Club Members’ Announcements:  Mark Harrison gave details of the games league: our opponents are Workington Derwent, Maryport, Silloth and Cockermouth.  Nights yet to be decided.

David Allan expressed concern over the new Government rules governing contact with vulnerable people and the effect this may have on Rotary service.  The Secretary will consult the District Protection Officer and the District Youth Activities Chairman.

Ian Watson discussed the Howard Jeffery Sports Foundation: donations are still welcome for money for local use.

Richard Stout gave details of the arrangements for the Social Night: 5.45 pm for 6 at Energus; 7.15 depart for the Royal Yew.

 

Speaker: Mary Ann Lancaster gave a lively presentation of how her organisation works to help those who have had, for example, strokes or who have other problems, to learn.  Members of the Club took part in activities which stimulated memory.  There were many interested questions at the end.
