Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna contains 1441 rooms. The number
1441 is a palindrome, and can only be divided by 11 and 131, both of which are
not only palindromes but also prime numbers.

Sec Anthony had represented the Club at the Technology Tournament and
had hosted the Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria; he had also attended a meeting of
the Workington Derwent Club at which Kevin Walsh had discussed issues
surrounding the construction of the new bridges over the Derwent at Workington.
Pres David had been to St
Benedict’s to present Rebecca with her apron: she had unfortunately not
been successful in Young Chef, but would report back to the Club at a future
date.

President’s Announcements:
The President was wearing a fetching blue Rotary sweater, a sample of Rotary
items available for purchase.
Items from the latest Council meeting:
Some members were unaware that John
Boag had resigned from the Club: this had been discussed at Council in
September but in error it had not been formally announced to the Club: in
future Council minutes will be posted on the website.
Whitehaven Inner Wheel may close:
membership of the Club would be offered to members, or they would be invited to
the Club’s meetings.
Ron Bailey had approved the use of a Shelterbox
at the Festival and the St Nicholas coffee event.
President’s Ball
would be at Cleator Moor on 10th April:
proceeds would go to the Richard Graham epilepsy fund.
The Richard Graham memorial walk
would be on 24th April.
Tom Milburn is organising a clay
pigeon shoot for the 4th May meeting, at Harry Harper or John
Messenger’s farm, followed by a buffet supper.
Joyce Challacombe
will talk to the Club on 11th May.
28th May is Ladies’ Night - venue to be announced.
A suggestion that Presidents of other
Clubs should have to pay for their meals at our Charter was rejected.
Energus Christmas lunch
will be repeated - date to be announced.
LIARS Christmas Day
lunch will be repeated.

John Kennedy was concerned that colleagues did not appreciate the amount of work necessary for the St Nicholas coffee event: Pres David will e-mail Terry O’Connell to ensure the event runs smoothly.
He also urged that the Club should
have speakers at lunchtime meetings.
Donald Brownrigg announced that next
year’s Young Chef final which we are hosting
will be at St Benedict’s on 16th February 2011. He had also been to St Bees Village School to
present Evie Moss with her Young Writer prize.
Donald Dixon gave an update on Brian
Early’s Ukrainian project: he (Donald) funds the
diesel for the trip and also toys had been sent out for children there. He also mentioned that John Head (Workington)
is involved in a water purification project in Cambodia and suggested he might
be invited to address the Club on the subject.
Club Draw £5

funds).
