Visits to Other Clubs: IPP Gordon and Irene had attended the Charter of Grange-over-Sands: there were 98 guests and the venue was very pleasant

President’s  Announcements: IPP Gordon, standing in for Pres David, announced:

St Nicholas Coffee Morning  -  support still needed.

Whitehaven Festival  -  a list will go round for members to sign up to help man the Rotary Stall

Council on May 19th: all incoming officers are invited to attend with a view to handover if required

Council on June 26th: a more formal meal is planned, and incoming officers will be invited to attend

Ladies’ Night  -  a few places are available, and sponsors are sought for the Special Ladies

 

Secretarial Announcements:  Carlisle South Charter Friday 4th June, Shepherd’s Inn, 7 for 7.30, menu choice, £22, last call 25th May

 

Club Members’ Announcements  Geoff Burgess sent a message that on the preceding Saturday at the Blood Pressure Day Event, 147 people had been checked in three-and-a-half hours: four nurses had helped throughout the session and they had been given a present in recognition.

Subject:   Literacy: a detailed look at the way in which Clubs can support Literacy initiatives among the population.  There was lively discussion afterwards emphasising that motivation needs to come from within if people want to improve their literacy skills
